At the designated time, we'll begin this free tour of Bucaramanga in the Parque Santander, the center of the city. Ready to discover the essence of the capital of Santander?
First, we'll see the Club del Comercio, a gathering place for the social and business elites of the past, which still remains as a symbol of distinction. Very close by, you'll be amazed by the Catedral de la Sagrada Familia, a foundation that marked a milestone in the religious and cultural life of Bucaramanga.
A few steps away lies the Hotel Bucarica, which currently has an academic use, keeping its legacy alive. We'll continue the tour toward the Berna bakery, an icon of local gastronomy famous for its delicatessen and desserts, which are part of Bucaramanga's culinary heritage.
After learning about its history, we'll continue our tour along the Calle de los Bancos, where the main headquarters of financial institutions are found. Here, we'll stop at a traditional fruit juice stand to try typical specialties like cocota, sousop, and pineapple.
Later, we'll enter the Paseo del Comercio, one of the oldest shopping arcades in the city, and visit a traditional establishment renowned for its flavours and its roots in the daily life of the city.
Next, on Diagonal 15, we'll cross the Metrolínea pedestrian bridge, where we'll learn how the local public transport system works. Afterwards, we'll stop at a traditional bakery to taste its speciality, the Mestiza. We'll then head to Pasaje de Edecanes, where we'll find a café that serves one of the five best coffees in the world.
The route will continue past the Casa de Bolívar, the Casa Luis Perú de la Croix and the church of San Laureano, one of the oldest in the city.
Finally, we'll pass through García Rovira Park, where the City Hall and the Governor's Office are located. After a walking tour lasting between 2.5 and 3 hours, we'll conclude this free tour of Bucaramanga at the Plaza Cívica Luis Carlos Galán.
