Discover the history of one of Italy's oldest cities with this Chieti Guided Tour. The Tempietti Romani and the San Giusto Cathedral await you!
Chieti Guided Tour
We'll meet at 4 pm in the central Piazza San Giustino, to start our tour of Chieti. Are you ready to immerse yourself in ancient Roman history?
Our first stop will be the National Archaeological Museum in Chieti, the exhibition centre that holds the most important collection of archaeological finds in Abruzzo. Here, we'll see the famous Capestrano Warrior, a 6th century BC soft limestone sculpture found in a necropolis in the ancient city of Aufinum.
Then, we'll explore the historic centre of Chieti and walk along the elegant Corso Marrucino, named after the people who founded the town. Our next stop will be the Tempietti Romani, three small temples dating back to the 1st century AD, and admire the architecture of the Marrucino Theatre and the majestic San Giustino Cathedral, built around the 8th century on the ruins of a pagan temple.
The last stop on our tour will be the Costantino Barbella Art Museum, housed in the 17th-century Palazzo Martinetti, which we'll visit to learn about its collection of works of art from the Abruzzo region, produced from the 14th century to the present day, such as the Michetti Prize paintings and Castelli majolica.
After 3 hours 30 minutes discovering Chieti's history and art the tour will end.
