At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Djerba to begin this tour of the island's most iconic spots. Ready for a journey full of culture and contrasts?
Our first top will be at the Roman causeway, an ancient bridge that connects the island to the mainland. As we gaze out to sea, we'll talk to you about Djerba's past and the main places we'll visit during the tour.
Then, we'll head towards Guellela, a picturesque village in Djerba known for its traditional pottery. There, we'll attend a demonstration in a workshop to see for ourselves how these unique pieces are moulded. You'll also have an hour to visit the Guellela Heritage Museum on your own, where you'll learn about local customs, traditional weddings, the local economy and many more surprises. A real cultural immersion!
Afterwards, we'll head to the El Ghriba Synagogue, the oldest in North Africa. We'll explore the synagogue for about 45 minutes. Did you know that it was built by Jews fleeing from the Temple of Solomon?
Our tour will continue in Djerbahood, an open-air museum where more than 100 artists have transformed the walls of its narrow streets into impressive works of urban art. Strolling through its streets is an experience that stimulates all the senses—you'll love it!
We'll finish the tour at Houmt Souk, the liveliest commercial centre of Djerba. After visiting the old inns called caravanserai and discovering the market, you'll have some free time. We recommend you to visit the fish market with its live auctions, the covered souk or the old foundouks. An ideal place for buying some authentic souvenirs!
Finally, we'll return to your hotel and say our goodbyes after 5 hours exploring of Djerba.
