Larnach Castle Guided Tour
Visit New Zealand's Only Castle
If you find yourself in Dunedin, don't miss the chance to visit New Zealand's only castle. On the day of the activity, we'll meet at The Octagon at the appointed time and head inland to the Otago Peninsula to reach Larnach Castle, an architectural gem that will leave you in disbelief!
Upon arrival, you'll be taken on a one-hour guided tour of the inside of this fascinating 19th-century castle. Over the course of the tour, we'll tell you the beautiful story that led William Larnach, an Australian merchant and politician, to build this castle for his wife. We'll talk about how Larnach made use of only the greatest European minds and the finest materials.
As we explore the various rooms, we'll be able to admire the precious works of art that decorate the castle walls, as well as its wonderful Edwardian furniture. After our visit inside the castle, you'll have some free time to stroll around the castle gardens.
The gardens of Larnach Castle offer a vibrant display of colours, featuring countless flowers and plants from around the world. Explore the Patterned Garden, Lost Rock Garden, Serpentine Walk, and Laburnum Arch - there's lots to discover!
Finally, we'll travel back to Dunedin and drop you off at the starting point after 3 hours of activity.
