Linlithgow Day Trip by Train
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the Equestrian Statue of the Duke of Wellington. Once we're all together, we'll walk towards Edinburgh Waverly Station, where we'll board a train that will take us from Edinburgh to Linlithgow. Ready to explore one of the most historic cities in Scotland?
In a journey of only half an hour, we'll reach Linlithgow, the birthplace of Mary Stuart, or Mary, Queen of Scots, one of Scotland's most important and beloved queens. To begin exploring this fascinating town and all its heritage and history, we'll visit Linlithgow Palace.
We'll enter this castle to discover every corner of the place where Mary Stuart was born and grew up. During the tour, we'll explore the different rooms of this palace, where the kings of Scotland resided during the 15th and 16th centuries, and which suffered a great fire in 1746. This fortress was also used as the setting for Outlander, specifically for Wentworth Prison.
After this visit, we'll take a walk along the loch, one of the most charming corners of Linlithgow. Our steps will take us to St. Michael's Church, famous for its architecture and strong religious symbolism.
Afterwards, you'll have 20 minutes of free time for lunch and, feeling refuelled, we'll walk through the historic centre of Linlithgow. You'll be surprised by the many curiosities and legends that this small village has to offer!
Finally, we'll return to the train station for our return journey to Edinburgh. We'll finish the tour at Waverly Station 5.5 hours later.
