    Magnificent tour, the cities are charming, our guide Benny was super friendly and knowledgeable about the history of each city, paying close attention to each of us. His lunch suggestions in each city were spot-on. The food was excellent, the views were beautiful, and the photos were very nice. Highly recommended, 5 stars.

    Joaquim (sp?) is a fantastic tour guide. His was the only tour I found from Nazaré to Fatima. It was meant to be. He was very good at explaining Portugal, Fatima and Nazaré. We had to opportunity to have more in depth conversations because we were there during a less busy time of year. We learned so much about the area and had great discussions about life. His tour group in Nazaré is called Alma Nazaré Tours. Additionally booking through Civitatis from abroad was very easy.

The Sanctuary of Fátima is a major Catholic pilgrimage site in Portugal and one of the most significant in the world, drawing millions of visitors every year.

History

The Sanctuary of Fátima dates back to 1928, though it has undergone a phased development, with new churches, chapels and structures been added over time.

The 1917 Marian Apparitions

The complex was built after an apparition of the Virgin Mary that occurred in 1917. Three young people from the village of Aljustrel, now known as the three children of Fátima, proclaimed that they had seen Mary and that she had asked them to build a chapel in this area.
