A docking area full of warehouses which today is a hip area full of leisure activities: be surprised by Speicherstadt and HafenCity, two of Hamburg's most iconic districts.
Itinerary
We begin our guided tour in the Rathausmarkt: the famous town hall square, well known for its picturesque architecture. From this central point the tour moves towards the port area of Speicherstadt and HafenCity - but why are these two areas so famous?
Speicherstadt and HafenCity constitute one of Germany's most interesting urban projects. This complex network of warehouses and canals has given way to a modern area, leading the way in architecture and elsewhere. Passing through its streets we will discover the history of these neighbourhoods and their evolution.
During our tour of these two UNESCO world heritage sites, you will also find out why Persian rugs from Hamburg enjoy such fame: the reason is truly surprising!
On the banks of the Hamburg river we will admire the design of the Elbphilharmonie, the Elba Philharmonic hall in Hamburg. Its strange architecture drew a raft of criticism when the building was inaugurated: do you know why?
Our tour of Speicherstadt and HafenCity returns to the starting point, where it finishes.
