Havana Cuban Music Free Tour
Tour Details
Are you in Havana and want to learn about its music? Then, at the designated time, we'll meet in front of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Havana. From there, we'll begin a tour of the history of Cuban music and its ambience. Get ready for a tour with a lot of rhythm!
We'll start walking along the streets of Old Havana, the passionate heart of the city. We'll pass the old Teatro Campoamor and the Parque Central until we reach Café Mambo. Here, we'll stop so you can discover the origins of rhythms like danzón, Cuba's first national dance, as we tell you how it was seen as a scandalous dance due to the pace of its movements.
As we continue walking, we'll admire the Teatro Lírico Nacional and stroll around Obispo Street, which will take us to Casona del Son. Here, we'll go over the history of son cubano, a rhythm that mixes Spanish and African roots. Did you know that, in its early days, it was a marginal and even banned movement?
During the tour, you'll also discover the solar Habanero as we tell you how Cuban music has been a form of resistance and celebration. For example, rumba was born in the solares and the piers, where rum barrels were used as drums and claps were the metronome. Fascinating, isn't it? Then, we'll see the Arco de Belén before we reach the emblematic Malecón.
Of course, we'll also dance! At some of the tour's stops, you'll have the chance to learn the basic steps of Cuban salsa, Cha-cha-chá, or a sequence of Colombian rumba.
We guarantee you'll feel the power of good music!
Finally, we'll return to the meeting point, where we'll say our goodbyes after 2 hours of plenty of rhythm.
