La moneda oficial es el forinto húngaro, aunque en algunos lugares turísticos aceptan euros, especialmente en pagos en efectivo. Los ciudadanos de la Unión Europea pueden entrar con DNI, documento nacional de identidad en vigor. En cambio, los viajeros de otros destinos suelen necesitar pasaporte y, en algunos casos, visado según su país de origen. Es recomendable consultar con la embajada u oficina consular este aspecto importante antes de viajar.
Para conocer Budapest, se recomienda organizar una escapada de 3 a 4 días. Si se desea explorar más allá de la capital y conocer parajes naturales como el lago Balatón u otras ciudades como Pécs, se recomienda dedicar al menos una semana.
De abril a octubre es la mejor época para visitar Hungría ya que el clima tiende a ser más agradable. Si bien es cierto que julio y agosto son meses calurosos, todo depende de los gustos y las motivaciones de cada viajero. Por otra parte, Hungría en Navidad luce con un encanto especial, por lo que el mes de diciembre es ideal para recorrer mercados navideños pese al frío de esta época.
