On this day tour, you will discover the wonderful city of Kyoto. This was the capital of Japan for more than 1000 years and the only large city in the country which was not bombarded during the 2nd World War. Join us to discover its incredible temples, its ancestral traditions, Zen gardens, and Geisha traditions.
Kyoto Walking Tour
First, we'll head to one of the city’s must-see sights, the Tofuku-ji Temple. Originally built in the 13th century, its beautiful Zen garden is the perfect place to relax and escape the bustle of the city. You will learn all about the origins of the garden and why it is an important place for the monks that live here.
Next, we will walk to the Fushimi Inari-taisha - a Shinto shrine dedicated to the deity Inari, associated with fertility, rice, agriculture, and successful business. You will walk through the snaking corridor of amazing torii gates, stopping to admire the different shrines ad fox statues. You might recognize this location from the film ‘Memories of a Geisha’.
To end the tour, we will head to the ancient neighborhood of Gion, where we will try to find some of the few geishas that still exist in Japan today. Our tour finishes around 5:30 pm.
