La Paz Food Tour
Tour Details
What does Bolivia taste like? To find out, we’ll meet at Emilio Villanueva Square, in front of the Municipal Palace, where we’ll begin our food tour of La Paz.
We’ll start this walking tour by discovering several food stalls around the square, where we’ll begin to learn about the most typical ingredients and products of Bolivian cuisine. After this introduction, we’ll move from theory to practice with the first tasting of the route: salteñas. These are traditional empanadas filled with meat, although vegetarian versions are also available.
Next, we’ll continue walking around the Emilio Villanueva Square area toward a relleno de papa stall. This name refers to delicious potato balls filled with meat and various spices. It’ll make your mouth water! After enjoying this irresistible bite, we’ll talk about Street Food, a popular Netflix series that dedicates some of its episodes to La Paz.
Our next stop will be at a place specializing in tumbo juice, a native Andean fruit that’s very popular in Bolivia. After enjoying this tasty juice, we’ll take the cable car to the El Alto area, where we’ll visit a venue to try a delicious noodle soup with peanuts, beef, and egg.
We’ll continue the route by visiting a market in El Alto. We’ll see its different stalls and then take the cable car back to Plaza Sucre, a well-known square in La Paz where the famous San Pedro prison is located.
We’ll talk about the history of this penitentiary and, so we don’t end the tour on a bitter note, quite the opposite, we’ll finish this 2.5-hour food tour of La Paz at a stall in Plaza Sucre, where we’ll try its iconic cinnamon ice cream.
