Famagusta & Kyrenia Day Trip
A ghost town, a Medieval monastery and a picturesque fishing village: discover the fascinating history of Northern Cyprus exploring the ancient cities of Famagusta and Kyrenia.
Famagusta & Kyrenia Day Trip
Having been picked up from your hotel in Larnaca between 8:00-8:25 am, you'll set off towards the north. After around an hour's drive, you'll reach the ghost town of Varosha. A former tourist resort, the apartments, shops and hotels were all abandoned following the tragic events of 1974. Learn what caused the residents to desert their homes thanks to your tour guide.
From Varosha, you'll next head to the historic centre of Famagusta, whose intriguing Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque will surely capture your attention with its unique architecture, more reminiscent of a Gothic church than a Muslim place of worship.
Driving through the stunning natural landscapes of the Kyrenia Mountains, also known as the Pentadaktylos, you'll soon arrive at the historic Bellapais Abbey. As you explore the ruins of the Medieval monastery, you'll hear all about its lengthy history from the arrival of monks in the 13th century to today.
Following your visit of Bellapais, you'll be taken to the coastal city of Kyrenia. Pretty sailors' houses and ancient watchtowers make this picturesque historic fishing village a must-see destination, and you'll have an hour of free time here to explore at your own pace and indulge in a delicious local lunch.
After eating, you'll meet back up to make the return journey to Larnaca.
