On this beautiful hike up Mount Tlaloc, we'll reach the highest point of the Sierra de Río Frío and visit the highest archaeological site in Mesoamerica!

Hiking up Mount Tlaloc

At the designated time, we'll meet up at the corner of Av. Vicente Suarez and Av. Michoacán. From here, we'll begin a fascinating adventure through the Sierra de Río Frío. Are you ready to climb up to the top of this former volcano? Let's go!

We'll travel in a minibus, passing through the towns of Texoco and San Pablo Ixayoc until we reach the dirt road that leads directly to the starting point of the Tlaloc hiking route. Upon reaching the Sierra de Río Frío, we'll start walking uphill through a pine forest.

During this hike, we'll tell you about the particularities of the flora and fauna of this natural Mexican environment. We'll cross a canyon and reach the summit of Mount Tlaloc, located at an altitude of 13,517 feet (4,120 meters)! Here, in addition to breathtaking views, we'll visit the highest archaeological site in Mesoamerica – the climb will definitely be worth it!

Did you know that this place was considered sacred by the Aztecs? We'll explore the archaeological site while we reveal all its curiosities, such as its significance for the Aztec raingod Tlaloc or the curious astronomical phenomenon that occurs every February.

From the top, we'll take a break to admire the volcanoes Iztaccihuatl and La Malinche, and, if we're lucky and the sky is clear, the Pico de Orizaba! After this short break, we'll begin our way back down to the starting point.

Of course, before returning to Mexico City, we'll enjoy the delicious picnic lunch that is included. In general, you'll have a sandwich, fruit, peanuts, chocolate, water, and a cereal bar.

After 2 hours of descent, we'll get back on the minibus and return to the starting point in Mexico City, where we'll arrive after about 14.5 hours.
