Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet next to St Andrew's Church, the oldest church in Newcastle. In front of this 12th-century church, we'll begin our guided tour of Newcastle.

A few steps away, we'll find the remains of the city wall, which was once the largest in England. We'll stop to admire it while we talk about stories of jousts, sieges and the audacity of Harry Hotspur. Who was this character, and what were his most important achievements?

Next, we'll walk to Blackfriars, founded in 1239 as a Dominican priory. We'll learn about the actions of its Dominicans, who generated income until they obtained great wealth and political power.

Further on, we'll arrive at St Nicholas' Cathedral, which clearly reflects the city's commercial prosperity during the Middle Ages. Next, we'll stop in front of the Guildhall, built on land where merchants had enjoyed a Royal Charter since 1216.

We'll continue, stopping in front of Trinity House, the sailors' guild founded in the Middle Ages, whose main missions included controlling all navigation between Whitby and Berwick. Pay attention to the explanations, because this crossing boosted the city's development!

Finally, we'll reach Newcastle Castle, where you'll be amazed by its façade facing the Black Gate and its keep. From outside, we'll tell you some interesting facts about its history and how it gave the city its name.

There, we'll end this 1.5-hour walking tour.
