Guelaguetza Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Oaxaca and make our way to Santa María del Tule. Here, we'll begin our immersion in Guelaguetza, a celebration that has its origins in pre-Hispanic times and is currently held on the two Mondays closest to July 16 in honour of the Virgen del Carmen.
First, we'll be immersed in the festive atmosphere of the Guelaguetza, where we'll witness traditional dances and admire the impressive textiles of the different regions of Oaxaca. We'll also visit the iconic tree of Tule to learn about the significance it has in the community. Did you know this tree has the thickest trunk in the world?
Our tour will continue at the archaeological site of Mitla, the second most important archaeological site in the state of Oaxaca. Here, we'll learn about Zapotec culture and explore the ancient structures that tell the story of this fascinating civilisation.
At lunchtime, you'll be delighted by the local Oaxacan cuisine, an experience that will allow us to savour authentic local dishes in a familiar and cosy atmosphere. After lunch, we'll visit a weaving workshop where you'll learn about the richness of the region's textiles.
Afterward, we'll return to your hotel in Oaxaca, concluding an exciting day of about 9 hours in total.
