Notre-Dame Cathedral Fire in 2019

In April 2019, Notre-Dame Cathedral suffered a devastating fire that caused significant damage to its roof and spire. The incident prompted an outpouring of support from around the world. Restoration works are currently in progress and the cathedral is set to reopen in 2024.

Notre-Dame Cathedral boasts one of Paris's oldest wooden timber frames, dating back to the 12th century. It's made from about 21 hectares (52 acres) of trees, with each beam crafted from a single tree. This intricate network of ancient woodwork is affectionately called 'the Forest'.
