Tour Details

We'll meet at the indicated time at the Père Lachaise metro station exit. From there, we'll head to the most visited cemetery in the world. Do you know which famous people rest in this Parisian cemetery? Let's find out!

We'll start our free tour of Père Lachaise by going to the mausoleum of Baron Haussmann, who undertook a profound renovation of Paris in the second half of the 19th century. After reviewing his legacy, we'll learn about the history of another wealthy family. This time, it's the Rothschilds, whose mausoleum is also located in the cemetery.

Our tour will continue in front of the tomb of Jean-François Champollion, the man who managed to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics thanks to the inscriptions found on the famous Rosetta Stone. We'll then continue our walk next to Jim Morrison's tomb, one of the most visited spots in the cemetery. As we'll see, many of the singer-songwriter and poet's fans leave flowers and objects paying tribute to the artist on his tombstone. Continuing with the world of literature, the next stops are the tombs of Molière and La Fontaine.

The route through the cemetery will also allow us to discover the history of other illustrious French figures who rest in Père Lachaise. This is the case of Antoine-Augustin Parmentier, whose defence of the potato revolutionised food and gastronomy, and the journalist Victor Noir. The latter's grave is a symbol of fertility. Do you know why?

After discovering it, we'll go to the tomb of the writer Oscar Wilde, author of the famous work The Picture of Dorian Gray. We'll then go to the tomb of Eugène Delacroix, the painter of outstanding works such as Liberty Leading the People, on display in the Louvre Museum.

We'll continue our route next to the resting place of Allan Kardec, the founder of spiritualism. What's more, we'll also stop at the tombstone of Honoré de Balzac, one of the most important writers of the 19th century. The next stop will be at the tomb of Vivant Denon, the first director of the Louvre Museum in 1793.

Finally, we'll see the resting place of the Polish composer Frédéric Chopin and, after a 2-hour tour, we'll conclude this free tour at the tomb of the Guatemalan writer Miguel Ángel Asturias, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1967.
