Anna was a fantastic guide – she speaks a bit fast but has an immense amount of knowledge. Even after my fifth time in Paris, I still discovered something new.

More information

Discover the breathtaking beauty of one of Paris's hidden gems. Often overshadowed by its larger neighbors, this enchanting Gothic chapel is renowned for its incredible stained glass windows, which bathe the interior in a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors. Located on the Île de la Cité, just a short stroll from Notre-Dame Cathedral, this site is a must-see for art lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone seeking an unforgettable experience in the heart of the city.

Step into History

Commissioned by King Louis IX in the 13th century, this masterpiece was built to house precious religious relics, including the Crown of Thorns. The chapel’s slender structure and soaring windows were revolutionary at the time, showcasing the height of Gothic architecture. Today, the intricate stained glass scenes, which depict over 1,000 biblical stories, continue to amaze visitors from all over the world.

Best Time to Visit

The colorful glass is at its most striking when the sun shines, especially in the late morning or early afternoon. To avoid crowds, aim for an early visit during weekdays. Spring and autumn offer a pleasant climate with fewer tourists, making your experience even more enjoyable.

Is there a dress code?

While there is no strict dress code, visitors are encouraged to dress modestly out of respect for the chapel’s religious significance.

How long does a visit take?

Most visitors spend about 45 minutes to an hour inside, enough time to admire the windows and soak up the unique atmosphere.
