History

Built in the early 20th century, the São Bento Railway Station was built on the site of a former Benedictine monastery. The azulejos tiles inside the station, of which there are over 20,000, were created by artist Jorge Colaço. These tiles depict scenes of battles, popular festivals, picturesque landscapes, and iconic national figures, offering a fascinating journey through Portugal's history
