La Carolina Trip
La Carolina Trip
At 7:30 am, we will pick you up at your hotel in Potrero de los Funes to the northern area of the Argentine province of San Luis.
After crossing the Pancanta Valley, we will arrive at La Carolina, a small village at the foot of Tomolasta Hill, named after the Spanish King Carlos III. Under the reign of this monarch, in the 18th century, various gold mines began to be exploited in this area of South America.
The desire to obtain the golden nuggets gave rise to numerous legends about "yellow fever" that we will reveal to you during the tour. We will also tell you how the Spanish transported the nuggets to Chile, where they were melted down in the Santiago Mint.
We will also learn about the process of extracting the metal extracted by visiting an old gold mine in La Carolina. Dressed in the rubber boots and lantern helmets of the miners, we will take a short, low-difficulty route through the tunnels. Will we find any precious nuggets?
After visiting the gold mine, we'll go to the outskirts of La Carolina to enter the prehistoric Inti Huasi cave to discover its secrets. Inside, we will discover how the first hominids who inhabited these great caves lived.
At the end of the tour of the cave, we will return to La Carolina, where you will have one hour free for lunch. After lunch, we will return to your hotel in Potrero de los Funes, where the arrival is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
