The history of Kerynia and Famagusta is full of surprises. Find out more on this fantastic day trip to the north of Cyprus; one of the lesser-known parts of the island.
Famagusta & Kyrenia Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Protaras between 8 and 8:25 am and from there we'll head to the north of Cyprus to visit one of the most curious places on the island: the ghost town of Varosha. This town has been abandoned since 1974, and as you walk along its streets and discover its history, you'll truly feel like you've stepped back in time.
Just 10 minutes from Varosha lies the historic town of Famagusta. You'll visit the centre, where you're sure to be impressed by the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque. Is this a mosque or a gothic cathedral? Why are the bell towers not symmetrical? All these questions and more will be answered as we continue exploring.
Our tour will then continue through the Kyrenia Mountain range as we make our way to one of the most notable medieval monuments in the north of Cyprus: Bellapais Abbey (ticket not included). Dating back to the 13th century, the gothic design of this religious temple is spectacular.
The final stop on this day trip will be at the picturesque coastal town of Kyrenia. The old fishing port will take you back to yesteryear! Here, you'll have an hour of free time to have lunch (not included). The delicious mixture of Greek, Cypriot and Turkish cuisine is not to be missed!
We will then make our way back to Protaras, and we'll drop you back at your hotel.
