Salamis & Famagusta Day Trip
The ancient Greek city of Salamis is one of the most notable archaeological sites in Cyprus. Explore it on this fascinating day trip from Protaras.
Salamis & Famagusta Day Trip
Between 8 and 8:25 am, we'll come and collect you from your hotel in Protaras, and 60 minutes later we'll arrive at one of the most important orthodox monuments in Cyprus: the Orthodox Monastery of Saint Barnabas. Inside, you'll see the crypt where his much-venerated tomb is located.
Next, we'll head to the ruins of the Ancient Greek and Roman city of Salamis. Exploring this archaeological site is like stepping back in time, and as you see the theatre, the public baths, the gymnasium and other important buildings you'll understand what life was like here so many years ago.
From here, we'll head to the nearby coastal city of Famagusta, where you'll visit the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque. This Islamic temple is located in a Gothic-style building that resembles a Catholic church more than a mosque and it's a wonderful site to explore! You'll then have an hour of free time to enjoy lunch in Famagusta (not included). Don't miss out on the wonderful Cypriot cuisine!
After lunch, we'll make our way to Varosha, known as the "ghost town". In the mid-20th century, this coastal town was thriving with the tourism "boom" of the 60s, but all of that changed in 1974, and it has been empty ever since. Find out why at the hands of our expert tour guide!
We'll finish our day trip by returning to Protaras.
