Ticket to the Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle
Why visit the Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle?
Situated in the charming village of Prudhomat in the Lot region, the grand Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle stands as one of the most prominent medieval fortresses in northern Occitania.
With your ticket to Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle, you'll have the freedom to explore this fortress, which traces its roots back to the 12th century. This bastion, an emblem of the formidable Castelnau barons, underwent renovations in the 15th and 16th centuries to enhance its defenses in response to artillery advancements.
Following the demise of the last Castelnau in 1715, the castle gradually fell into disrepair. In 1851, a devastating fire further damaged the structure. However, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the castle experienced a renaissance thanks to the restoration efforts led by Jean Mouliérat, a renowned tenor of that era. He acquired the castle and played a pivotal role in its revival.
During your visit to Castelnau-Bretenoux Castle, you'll have the opportunity to admire the collection curated by Jean Mouliérat for the fortress. This collection includes a vast array of period furniture, tapestries, and a multitude of sacred art pieces.
Furthermore, from the castle's windows, you'll be treated to a splendid panoramic view of the Prudhomat landscape.
