Puerto Viejo Food Tour
Tour Details
Are you someone who likes to get to know a destination through its flavors? At the scheduled time, we'll meet in front of the Café Viejo Restaurant, right in the center of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, and begin a food tour that will allow you to experience the essence, history, and cuisine of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.
Once everyone is together, we'll start walking through the heart of Puerto Viejo, learning some of the best-kept secrets about the town’s origins. To do it in the best way, we'll try a refreshing cold coconut water, perfect for immersing ourselves in the Afro-descendant heritage of the community.
As we walk through the streets, we'll discover the stories of Puerto Viejo’s founding families and the important role that each recipe has played in the town’s evolution. The flavors and aromas of the Afro, indigenous, and Costa Rican cultures blend perfectly, creating a colorful cuisine. And, of course, delicious!
To experience it firsthand, the food tour will take you to various restaurants and kitchens to sample typical dishes such as rondón, a creamy soup made with coconut milk, fresh fish, and vegetables, rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, and the sweetest desserts from this part of the Caribbean. Every bite will make your mouth water!
You will also learn the secrets behind each recipe, as well as the ingredients most commonly used in Puerto Viejo kitchens, such as mango, banana, cassava, and fresh herbs.
After a full tour exploring authentic local life, we'll conclude at Puerto Viejo Beach, finishing the tour approximately 2.5 hours later.
