Tour Details

We'll meet at the indicated time at Plaza del Poeta Iglesias. From there, we'll set off on this free tour of Salamanca. Before setting off, our guide will share a short introduction to the city's past, from its Roman roots to its long-standing academic prestige.

Our first stop is the iconic Plaza Mayor, often described as the soul of Salamanca. This grand Baroque square, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is surrounded by elegant arches and traditional cafés, making it the ideal place to soak up the local atmosphere.

From here, we'll wander through the old town’s narrow streets to reach the striking Casa de las Conchas. This unique palace, which was completed in 1517, is decorated with hundreds of stone shells, a detail that links Salamanca's university tradition with the symbolism of pilgrimage.

Nearby, we'll see the impressive Clerecía and the Pontifical University, reminders of the important role religion and education have played in shaping the city. At the University of Salamanca, one of the oldest in Europe, we'll admire its famous façade and hear stories from over 800 years of academic life.

Along the way, our guide will reveal the legend of the hidden frog and explain the meaning behind the Cielo de Salamanca, a fascinating Renaissance artwork filled with scientific and symbolic references. You'll be impressed!

The tour continues at the Old and New Cathedrals, standing side by side and showcasing a mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles. Here, we'll learn how these monumental buildings evolved over time and uncover details you might otherwise miss.

After around 1.5 hours, we'll finish near the New Cathedral. From here, you’ll be free to continue exploring Salamanca. Until next time!
