Guachipas Cave Paintings Day Trip
Tour Highlights
At the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Salta and head south towards the Cuevas Pintadas de Guachipas. Are you ready to take a trip through time?
Once at our destination, we'll begin our visit to these caves at the Interpretation Center. There, we'll learn about the history of the caves, where, between the 9th and 15th centuries, the native peoples of the region painted their pre-Columbian art. Why did they draw human and zoomorphic forms? It won't take long to find out!
Next, we'll get to see the pre-Hispanic paintings in the caves firsthand, which are located on a rocky hill 35 kilometers from Guachipas. During the tour through the caves, we'll see representations of camelids, condors, felines, and other native animals, as well as geometric and abstract figures.
We'll continue our visit to the Painted Caves of Guachipas, admiring some striking red, black, and white figures that look like warriors and are known as shieldmen. After deciphering their meaning, we'll have a picnic lunch with a sandwich, a piece of fruit, a slice of cake, and two bottles of mineral water.
After lunch, we'll return to your hotel in Salta, arriving about 12 hours after pickup.
