Do you know the inspiring history of one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in San Salvador? At the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel and head to the neighborhood of La Campanera, which has now become one of the safest areas thanks to the community's efforts.
Once we arrive, we'll witness the neighborhood's renovation as you discover what it was like to live in a place dominated by violence. We'll pass the wall of murals, a memorial that honors the victims of the gangs of the last two decades. You'll admire the mural of Luigi Doce, an activist who fought to take young people out of gangs through his music.
We'll then reach the so-called Casa Destroyer, a former meeting point for gang members where they would organize their crimes in San Salvador. Afterward, we'll walk along the narrow, maze-like alleyways. Did you know the gang members themselves wired the neighborhood this way to get lost during chases?
Next, we'll visit the small shops, where you'll hear the stories of the locals about what it was like to be under the control of the "maras" and how they rebuilt their identity and rose from the ashes. We'll stroll along La Campanera's main streets as you learn a lesson of resilience, respect, and harmony, soaking up its atmosphere filled with energy and life.
Finally, after 2 hours, we'll return to the vehicle and conclude our walking tour by dropping you off at your hotel.
