Santa Bárbara Culture Tour
Santa Bárbara Culture Tour
At 9:30 am, we'll meet you in the Santa Bárbara plaza and start a fascinating cultural tour around the area.
First of all, we'll visit the La Casona Museum, an authentic Guanacaste building in which we'll see leather beds, chests, canopies and shears. We'll also learn all about the former owners of this house.
Afterwards, we'll stroll to the Zanja Negra estate. Here, we'll learn how a piece of Chorotega craftsmanship is made through a process in a clay oven with bay cedar firewood. You'll also have the chance to make a ceramic piece of your own with the help of an expert in traditional pottery.
Our next stop will be a Guanacaste cookery class. We'll learn how to prepare tanelas (a sweet treat made flavoured with dry cheese, cloves and cinammon), homemade bread, fresh pozol (a popular corn-based soup in Latin America), cheese or cottage cheese and tortillas. After the cooking class, we'll enjoy a tasty tayuya, a type of tortilla filled with beans or cheese.
The cherry on top of a fantastic day will be a marimba workshop, where we'll learn how the instruments are made and what types of wood are used in the process. We'll then be taught how to play the marimba - let's see if we'd be good enough to go pro!
We'll finish our culture tour at 1:30 pm and say our goodbyes. See you next time!
