Military and Historical Museum of Chile Guided Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet next to the equestrian statue of Pedro de Valdivia, located in the Plaza de Armas in Santiago.
Our journey begins with a brief introduction to the history of Chile and the armed conflicts that have marked the country since the conquest of Pedro de Valdivia. Then, we'll travel by public transportation to the Historical and Military Museum of Chile, one of the most important museums in Santiago.
We'll begin our guided tour of the museum in the rooms dedicated to the period between the 15th and 19th centuries. Throughout the tour, we'll see the weapons used during that period and learn about the evolution of military tactics and strategies. We'll begin by observing the objects of the Inca civilization, and then we'll learn about the history of the discovery and conquest of Chile.
Here, we'll conclude this first part of the tour by learning about the history of the government of General Bernardo O'Higgins and the incorporation of the island of Chiloé to the Chilean national territory.
Next, we'll visit the rooms dedicated to the 19th and 20th centuries. Here we'll learn about the history of the constitutional trials and the Revolution of 1829. We'll also talk about the War of the Pacific, where Chile took on Bolivia and Peru, and the Civil War of 1891.
From here, we'll observe weapons and objects related to these confrontations, and we'll learn about what role Chile played during the two World Wars and the Cold War. Finally, we'll talk about the current Chilean Army and its assistance to citizens in natural disasters.
Lastly, we'll conclude this 3-hour activity in the lobby of the museum. At the end of the guided tour, you can continue exploring the museum at your own pace.
