São Paulo Catholic Churches Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel and from there we'll start this fascinating tour of the Catholic churches of São Paulo, a city with a very important religious architectural heritage.
First, we'll visit the Monastery of São Bento, where we'll attend its popular mass with a Gregorian chant. This complex, founded in 1598, has a basilica, a school, a theater, and a bakery. In its beginnings, at the end of the 16th century, it was used as a chapel, and, with the expansion of Largo de São Bento, came the construction of the monastery.
Next, we'll visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. This imposing neo-Gothic style temple stands out for being the largest church in São Paulo, with two towers stretching 92 meters (301 ft) high and an impressive dome.
From there, we'll go to the Pátio do Colégio, where, in January 1554, the mass that made official the birth of the Jesuit college in the city took place. This place served as the Palace of the Governors and is currently the seat of the Padre Anchieta Museum.
We'll put the finishing touch to this tour at the Museum of Sacred Art, which houses one of the most important Catholic collections in Brazil: Baroque pieces, several saints, and one of the largest Neapolitan nativity scenes in the world, with 110 square meters (1,184 sq ft).
Finally, we'll say goodbye at the starting point after 4 hours.
