Paleolithic Art Tour of Dordogne
We will meet up in the center of Sarlat before taking a minibus on a thirty-minute journey to our first destination: Les Eyzies de Tayac, the World Capital of Prehistory.
Accompanied by our guide, we will visit the National Museum of Prehistory, the largest collection of prehistoric instruments and objects in the world. Along the corridors and showcases here, we will learn all about the evolution of human beings from the first hominids through to homo sapiens.
After admiring the instruments of our ancestors, it is time to see one of their greatest works of art: the Cave of Lascaux. We will go there to explore it, and admire the wonderful cave paintings and visit the fascinating Lascaux IV museum. This interpretation center will teach you all about the origins of the cave and its paintings, as well as the techniques used to produce them. It uses state-of-the-art technology with 3D digital recreations.
Our last stop will be the Cave of Rouffignac where we admire the cave paintings and engravings, which were written about by the French writer François de Belleforest in the 16th-century. We will travel onboard a small electric train that will take us on rails for the most outstanding points of the grotto.
We will finish the Palaeolithic Art Tour in Dordogne returning to the center of Sarlat.
