Silk Tour of Valencia
Our Silk Tour begins at 11 am at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, located in the historical heart of the city on the banks of the River Turia. From here the tour to discover Valencia's role in the famous Silk Road will begin.
From the Valencian City Hall we'll go to Market Square, where we'll take a guided tour of the Silk Market. Did you know that this 15th century building was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site? It's considered a jewel of civil Gothic art.
Inside you'll learn about the details of the silk trade, the city's most thriving industry from the Renaissance until well into the 18th century. We'll pay attention to the ribs of the vault, as well as the decoration of the tower, the Consulado del Mar or the Sala de Contratación. We'll also talk about the "Taula de Canvis", a banking institution of great importance for commercial transactions.
Our next stop is the Museum and College of High Silk Art, home to the fascinating Silk Museum. Here, you'll witness the impressive optical illusion created by the intricate tiled decoration. Inside you learn even more fabulous secrets of the city's beautiful silk.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point to end the tour at 1 pm.
