Versailles Bike Tour
Bike Tour Details
We'll meet at Rue de l’Orangerie, number 31, where we'll be equipped with all the necessary materials. Once we're ready, we'll begin an exciting bike tour of Versailles. Ready to pedal through the town's most emblematic sites?
First, we'll head to the square of the Cour d'Honneur (Court of Honor) to admire the exterior of the Palace of Versailles. This former royal residence, declared a World Heritage Site, dates back to the 17th century and is a French Baroque masterpiece. We'll observe the details of its exterior decoration, where the golden and pastel colors stand out.
Then, we'll pass one of the most beautiful areas of the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. As you admire its flower beds, ponds, and trails among bushes, we'll tell you about the landscape architect André Le Nôtre, who was commissioned to design these spaces when he worked as a gardener for King Louis XIV of France.
Our next stop will take place in front of the palace of La Lanterne, a former hunting lodge that was used as a retreat by the president of the French Republic. After learning about its history, we'll continue cycling next to the Grand Canal of Versailles, where you'll enjoy the magnificent views of both the palace and its surrounding gardens.
Lastly, we'll head to the area where we'll find the Grand and Petit Trianon, two recreational palaces that are away from the main residence, where Marie Antoinette and other monarchs could escape from the problems and protocol of the court.
Finally, we'll conclude this 2-hour bike tour by returning to the meeting point.
