Vigo Mysteries & Legends Free Tour
Tour Details
The humidity begins to rise in the bay. The wind begins to blow over the estuary. Night falls over Vigo. It's the perfect time to gather at Puerta del Sol square, under the Siren sculpture, from where we can begin discovering the mysteries and legends of the Galician city. Vigo is full of unfathomable enigmas to be solved and meigas that wait for the sun to set on the horizon to exercise their power.
Galician mythology will provide us with numerous stories to discover at the beginning of this walk. Their protagonists? Besides meigas, or witches in English, there will also be trasnos, mouras, vampires, losbishomes, and other magical creatures that come to life along the way.
As we walk through the narrow streets of the old town of Vigo, we'll also learn about the legend of the city's olive tree. This tree is represented in the heraldic shield of the city due to a certain event that happened in the past. Of course, we'll share this story with you on the tour.
We'll continue this free tour of mysteries and legends near the harbor, where the famous Jules Verne Monument is located. In his work, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the French author dedicated a chapter to the Vigo Bay. Why would Captain Nemo travel to this area of Galicia with his Nautilus? Is there a secret that lies beneath the Atlantic waters?
After 1 hour and 45 minutes of exploration, we'll bring the experience to an end at the Church Square.
