On this free tour, you'll discover Ano Poli, the Upper Town of Thessaloniki. Let's travel back in time and explore the most ancient landmarks in this Greek city.
Ano Poli Free Tour
At 6 pm, we'll meet in front of the Church of St. Demetrios and start a free tour of Ano Poli, the Upper Town of Thessaloniki.
For two hours, we'll explore some of the most iconic spots in the northern part of the city. Did you know that it's the only area in Thessaloniki that remained intact after the great fire of 1917?
We'll stroll through the narrow, winding streets of Ano Poli and stop to admire two of Thessaloniki's mosques - Yeni Hamman and Alaca İmaret. Then, we'll continue to learn about the history of the oldest part of this Greek city as we visit the Church of the Virgin Mary, an Armenian Orthodox temple built in the early 20th century.
Our next destination will take us to the highest part of the city to discover the church of St. Nicholas and Trigonion Tower, one of the most important spots in Thessaloniki. The last stop on the tour will be the monastery of Vlatadon, the only Orthodox monastery still active currently in Ano Poli.
We'll finish this free tour of Ano Poli at about 8 pm.
