Built over 2000 years ago, the Temple of Edfu stands as one of the largest and best-preserved temples from ancient Egypt.

History

The Temple of Edfu was built during the Ptolemaic dynasty between 237 and 57 BC in dedication to the falcon God, Horus. The temple was built under a number of different rulers.

Abandoned around 391 AD, the temple was gradually buried underneath 12 metres (39 ft) of drifting desert sands. The site wouldn't be uncovered in the mid-19th century.

How to see the temple
