Guided Tour of Atri

At 9:30 am, we'll meet in Piazza del Duomo in Atri, where we'll begin our tour of this pre-Roman town tucked away in the Italian province of Teramo.

We'll hit all of the tourist hotspots, including the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Also known as Duomo di Atri, this cathedral is one of the finest examples of Abruzzo-style architecture, boasting a beautiful Istrian stone facade with a large portal dating back to the late 13th century.

Next, we'll visit the church of San Nicola and Atri Municipal Theater. The group will continue on to the central avenue of Corso Elio Adriano and visit the church of Sant'Agostino, built between the 13th and 14th centuries. Our next stop will take us to the famous Palazzo dei Duchi d’Acquaviva, where you'll learn all about the house of Acquaviva, one of the seven great families of the Kingdom of Naples.

Your guide will reveal lots of curious facts about the connection between the Duke of Acquaviva and Miguel de Cervantes, the famed author of Don Quijote de la Mancha.

Then, to end the tour on a sweet note, our journey through Atri will finish with a tasting experience, where you'll sample local sweets like licorice and Pan Ducale, a typical Atrian dessert.
