Temple of Heaven, Lama Temple & Summer Palace Tour

  • 45 reviews | 609 travellers
Overall, it was fine. It was very long and had a lot of explanations that were difficult to understand due to the crowds. What I don't find good is that they dropped us off at the Summer Palace. They should have taken us back to the Palace of Heaven, which is where we started. The lunch spot was bad; the restaurants were packed. The spot on the wall tour was much better.

Tour Details

Our journey begins early in the morning, from Tiantandongmen Station. We'll proceed to the Temple of Heaven, the largest imperial worship complex in China, where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties prayed for good harvests. We'll admire the majestic Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, a masterpiece of ancient Chinese architecture.

We'll continue our journey to the Lama Temple, the most prestigious Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Beijing. This impressive site fuses Han and Tibetan architectural styles. Here, we'll behold the imposing figure of Maitreya Buddha, carved from a single sandalwood tree and standing 18 m tall (59 ft).

After the temple visit, we will take a leisurely stroll through Beijing's hutongs, the ancient lanes that preserve the legacy of old Beijing and offer a fascinating glimpse into traditional Beijing life. You'll have free time to explore and have lunch at your own paces at any of the local restaurants.

In the afternoon, we'll head to the Summer Palace, an imperial garden declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and known as the “Royal Garden Museum”.We'll stroll along Kunming Lake and admire the iconic Long Corridor, with its painted scenes reflecting the harmony between man and nature.

If you wish, and as an optional activity, you can take a cruise on the Imperial Canal (at an additional cost of 12 (US$ 13.82) per person). This historic route was used by royalty to access the Summer Palace by boat. Those who do not wish to take the cruise will have free time to continue exploring the palace.

Finally, we'll board the bus to return to the city center. The tour will conclude at the famous Olympic landmark, the National Stadium, known as the Bird's Nest. Here you'll be able to continue exploring on your own and admire its breathtaking views at night.
