Situated in the heart of Berlin, the Memorial site preserves the last remnants of the historic Berlin Wall, standing as a testament to the city's past.

History

The Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961 by the German Democratic Republic (also known as East Germany), as a barrier to restrict East Germans from fleeing to West Germany. The wall fell on the 9th of November 1989, following a series of political changes in Eastern Europe and civil unrest in Germany. This event marked a significant step forward in the process of German reunification and the conclusion of the Cold War.
