Pope Francis Free Tour in Buenos Aires
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the entrance of the Basilica of St. Francis, an ideal meeting point to start this free tour where we'll learn about Pope Francis. Ready to discover the places in Buenos Aires that shaped his path? Here we go!
First up, we'll start by exploring this basilica, which not only inspired Jorge Bergoglio's papal name, but was also a key place in his spiritual formation. Near the church, we'll talk about the figure of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, the order to which Pope Francis belongs. We'll learn about his influence on Bergoglio's life and values.
Next, we'll continue the tour at a curious and meaningful point: the newspaper stand at the corner of Hipólito Yrigoyen and Bolívar. Here, the Pope bought the newspaper daily, reflecting his interest in the social reality of Argentina. Afterward, we'll head to Pasaje Roverano, where the Romano Barber Shop is located. Did you know that Bergoglio used to get his hair cut here? This place will transport us to the daily life of the then Archbishop of Buenos Aires.
The next stop on the way will be the Confitería La Piedad, a classic in Buenos Aires, where Pope Francis used to meet with his friends and colleagues. A perfect place to understand his closeness to the community and his vision of the Church as a meeting place. We'll continue at the Cabildo Bar in Buenos Aires, another of the places frequented by Bergoglio. In this traditional café, we'll talk about his years in the city and his commitment to the most vulnerable communities.
Our next stop will be the Archbishopric of Buenos Aires, where the Pope carried out his pastoral work before being elected Supreme Pontiff. Here we'll learn more about his work for social justice and his relationship with the faithful.
Finally, we'll arrive at the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the most emblematic points of the tour. In this temple, Pope Francis celebrated numerous masses and left an indelible mark on the history of the city.
After approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, we'll end our free tour with a clearer picture of Jorge Bergoglio's life before he became the leader of the Catholic Church.
