Burano + San Francesco del Deserto Tour
Burano + San Francesco del Deserto Tour
Meet us at Burano Port to kick start our guided boat tour of the beautiful Venice lagoon, whose vivid colors and nautical spirit are sure to captivate you right from the start.
First, we'll dedicate approximately one hour to strolling the streets of Burano. As we walk along, we'll come to admire the bridges and canals, iconic to the area, as we share many fun and interesting facts about the city with you. For example, did you know the houses were painted with such vibrant colors so that they could be seen through the typical foggy weather in the region?
We'll also pause to contemplate the exterior of the San Martino Church as we discuss the storied past behind the Burano bell tower. Did you know it shares something in common with the Leaning Tower of Pisa? Stick around to find out what!
Wrapping up the tour of Burano, we'll head back to the boat and head towards the island of San Francisco del Desierto. Along the way, we'll discuss the widespread fame this island has enjoyed since Ancient Roman Empire times as we approach the monastery, which dates back to the 13th century.
Upon arrival, we'll ramble our way through the cloisters, visit the church, and tour the gardens, all of which are excellent examples of the Franciscan presence on the island. We'll also share with you the abrupt change the region endured during the years the plague was running rampant as well as during the Austrian occupation.
Then, we'll return to the boat and sail back to Burano Port. After 3 hours of historical adventure, we'll bring our tour to an end.
