Day Trip Details

We’ll begin the day by meeting at the bus station in Cangas de Onís to start our day trip to Covadonga. Ready for an unforgettable journey?

From there, we’ll head into the heart of Picos de Europa National Park, where one of Asturias’ most fascinating natural sites is located: the Covadonga Lakes.

Our first stop will be at the Entrelagos viewpoint, a perfect spot to enjoy an unmatched panoramic view of Lakes Enol and Ercina and learn about their glacial origin.

Next, we’ll head to the Basilica of Santa María la Real de Covadonga. Near this impressive neo-Romanesque temple, built between 1877 and 1901, we’ll learn about the fascinating history of Don Pelayo and the Spanish Reconquest.

We’ll also visit the Sanctuary of Covadonga, where the cave that houses the venerated image of the Virgin of Covadonga, popularly known as La Santina, is located. We’ll even see the Royal Pantheon where the remains of Don Pelayo rest.

Finally, we’ll begin the return journey to the starting point in Cangas, where we’ll end this day trip after a total of between 4.5 and 5 hours.

Pickup Point

The meeting point will be at one of the bus bays at the Cangas de Onís bus station. This location may change and will be assigned on the day of the day trip. During the booking process, we’ll indicate how to identify the bus upon arrival at the station.

Changes to the Itinerary

Please note that the Covadonga Lakes are located within Picos de Europa National Park, whose regulations govern parking and access order. It’s also possible that the park may close access for organizational reasons or that time spent at the lakes may be reduced without prior notice, as it is a national park. If this happens, we’ll dedicate more time to the other stops on the day trip.

Access to the Covadonga Lakes

Depending on the parking area assigned by the park, access to the Covadonga Lakes will include climbing either 200 or 400 steps.

If you’re unable to find availability on this tour, we recommend booking our small-group day trip to the Covadonga Lakes.
