Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens Boat Excursion
At 2 pm, we'll meet at Lungolago di Cannobio, Cannobio's lakeside promenade. There, we'll board a boat that will take us on a cruise across Lake Maggiore to the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens.
After about an hour-long boat ride, we'll dock at the pier of the botanical garden of Pallanza, a village in Verbania. Did you know that, in 1931, it was the Scottish captain Neil Boyd McEacharn who commissioned the construction of the villa and its gardens? We'll discover this and much more during the tour!
The moment we enter the botanical garden, we'll be welcomed by the Viale delle Conifere, the park's entrance boulevard with rare specimens of plants from all over the world. We'll then come across the Fontana dei Putti fountain surrounded by multicolored flowers, and see the bronze statue of the "Fisherman" by the Neapolitan Vincenzo Gemito.
From the outside, we'll also marvel at the garden's prized manor, Villa Taranto, designed in 1853 by the Ticinese architect Augusto Guidini. Today, the villa cannot be visited, as it is the seat of the prefecture of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province. However, we'll admire its imposing architecture from the exterior and observe the fountain and English-style lawn in front.
Another must-see on the excursion is the famous Dahlia Maze, which fascinates visitors with its more than 1,700 flowering plants, including the bright pink Emory Paul Dahlia.
After about two hours of discovering the lush nature of Villa Taranto, we'll return to the departure pier in Cannobio, where we'll arrive around 6:30 pm.
