Colmar Free Tour
Discover the enchanting postcard town in northeastern France, that you won't want to leave, with this Colmar Free Tour. Learn about the Alsace city's history
Colmar is known worldwide for its perfectly preserved medieval old town, which looks like something out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Its colorful half-timbered houses, flower-adorned canals, and magical atmosphere during Christmas have made it one of the most Instagrammable and romantic destinations in all of Europe.
In addition to strolling through its cobbled streets, you have to see the Maison Pfister (one of the most beautiful buildings in the city), the Koïfhus (the old customs house), the picturesque tanners' quarter, and the replica of the Statue of Liberty, a tribute to its creator, Colmar native Auguste Bartholdi.
December is undoubtedly the best month thanks to its Christmas markets, considered the most beautiful in Europe. However, if you prefer to avoid the crowds and see the balconies full of flowers, spring and summer are spectacular seasons.
CColmar can be seen in a day, as its historic center is small and pedestrianized. However, we suggest staying for 3 or 4 days to use it as a base if you want to visit the neighboring villages of Eguisheim or Riquewihr.
We recommend starting the morning with a stroll through Petite Venise and Quai de la Poissonnerie. After an Alsatian lunch, visit the Unterlinden Museum and St. Martin's Collegiate Church. In the afternoon, lose yourself in the pedestrian streets, stopping at traditional pastry shops, and end the day with a local wine tasting.
Colmar has medium to high prices, similar to Paris during peak season (Christmas). However, there are options for all budgets, especially if you venture a little further away from the main squares to eat.
No. Alsace is the historical region in northeastern France (whose capital is Strasbourg), while Colmar is one of its most important and beautiful cities.
