World War II Free Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at a central point in Cologne to begin a tour that will take us on a journey through one of the darkest chapters in the city's history. Ready to learn about the impact the Second World War had on the city?
Once we're all ready, we'll embark on a tour that will follow the traces of Nazism and World War II. First of all, we'll see the exterior of the former headquarters of the Gestapo, the secret services of the Nazi regime. At this emblematic site, we'll tell you about the beginnings of this political movement in the city, which will make your hair stand on end.
From here, we'll walk to see the Deserteurdenkmal Memorial, a perfect place to honour the victims of the war and learn about soldiers who chose to leave the Hitler regime. We'll continue the free tour by visiting the former armoury in Cologne and the Edith Stein Memorial, one of the most prominent figures during this time.
Our next stop will be at the world's largest decentralised memorial, where you'll also learn the story of Mucki, one of the most prominent members of the Cologne resistance. We'll pass the Cologne Cathedral to reach the memorial to the Gypsy People, another of the groups that were most severely affected during World War II. We'll also talk about the cruellest moments the city experienced during Nazism, such as Operation Millennium and the various bombing raids on its streets.
In the final stretch of the free tour, we'll walk around the Old Market Square and talk about the reconstruction of Cologne after the end of the war. Then, 2 hours later, we'll say goodbye and end the tour.
