Explore the capital of Easter Island on this guided tour of Hanga Roa. Discover the fascinating culture and history of the Rapa Nui people.
Hanga Roa Guided Tour
Begin your guided tour of Hanga Roa visiting a local handicraft market, where you'll get to see the age-old techniques employed by the Rapa Nui people to create objects from wood and shells.
You'll then head onwards to the Father Sebastian Englert Anthropological Museum, a museum named for a German priest who worked to improve conditions and preserve the traditions of the Rapa Nui people on Easter Island during the 20th century. Here, you'll learn all about the history of the island, the way of life of the locals and the importance of nature and wildlife in Rapa Nui culture. The museum is also home to one of the very few female moais to exist, the monolithic human figures for which Easter Island is famous!
Continuing your tour around Hanga Roa, you'll delve deep into the streets of the town, which was founded in the late 19th century. You'll be able to see the fusion of local Rapa Nui culture with the influence of the Chilean mainland.
Witness this cultural mix first hand visiting the island's only catholic church: the Holy Cross Church. The most venerated icon on the island, the Virgin of Rapa Nui, has clear similarities to the famous maoi sculptures.
At the end of your tour, you'll be dropped back off at your hotel.
