Real Grande Canyon Private Excursion

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in El Peñón and we'll set off in a 4x4 vehicle towards the amazing Real Grande canyon.

We'll drive through the northern part of Catamarca, an Argentinean province bordering Chile that stands out for its spectacular Andean landscapes. After a brief stop in Antofagasta de la Sierra, the capital of the department of the same name, we'll continue the route at Campo Las Tobas, a historical landmark where we'll see a curious set of petroglyphs carved into the ground. Will you be able to guess the meaning of these figures?

From Las Tobas we'll continue the route north, heading towards the famous canyon of Real Grande. This spectacular canyon, with walls up to 70 meters (230 feet) high, houses a set of cave paintings. We'll take a break in this gorge so that you can calmly admire the scenery while you recharge your batteries with a bite to eat - don't forget to bring a picnic lunch!

Following lunch, we'll continue exploring the surroundings of the Real Grande canyon. We'll visit a viewpoint on the western edge of the Galán volcano, perched at a towering altitude of 4,840 meters (15,879 feet). Open your eyes wide, and you'll enjoy unbeatable views of the famous Laguna Diamante lagoon and the crater of the volcano itself.

After this initial glimpse, we'll then visit the surroundings of the Galán volcano. Here we'll admire not only Laguna Diamante but also the Laguna Grande and Laguna Pabellón, as well as the geysers that are distributed all around. Finally, from there we'll return to your hotel in El Peñón, where we'll arrive 9 hours after pickup.
