The visit to Tikal was excellent. An impressive place, both for its history and its natural beauty. Furthermore, it was impeccably led by Melvin, our guide. We were very happy!

Explore Flores: Top Tours and Activities in Guatemala

Flores is a charming island town set on Lake Petén Itzá in northern Guatemala. Known for its colorful colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and relaxed atmosphere, this destination is a gateway to exploring ancient Mayan treasures and lush rainforests. With its lively lakeside promenade and friendly locals, it's the perfect blend of culture, nature, and adventure.

A Glimpse into the Past

Originally settled by the Itza Maya, this island played a crucial role in resisting Spanish conquest until the late 17th century. Today, remnants of its Mayan heritage can be seen alongside Spanish colonial influences, weaving together history and modern life in a unique tapestry.

When to Go

The best time to visit is during the dry season, from November to April, when days are sunny and ideal for exploring the island or nearby Mayan ruins. The rainy season, from May to October, brings lush scenery but also occasional showers, so pack accordingly if you visit then.

How do I get to the island?

You can reach the island by crossing a short causeway from the mainland town of Santa Elena. It's also well-connected by local flights and buses from other parts of Guatemala.

What are the main attractions?

Highlights include the picturesque old town, vibrant local markets, lakeside walks, and boat rides. It's also the perfect starting point for trips to Tikal, one of the most impressive Mayan archaeological sites.
