Why Visit La Mora?

Have you ever wondered how people sailed the high seas hundreds of years ago? Learn about this and more with your ticket to La Mora, located at number 2 Quai de la Jetée de l'Est in Honfleur. Included are the following interactive exhibits and experiences:

An Immersive Journey

At La Mora, you can explore 11th century Normandy like never before through an interactive exhibit that takes you on a visual journey through the region's past. You'll learn about when the Vikings arrived, and how their culture and mythology influenced the Norman coasts as they expanded their conquests.

The Vikings also brought new knowledge in shipbuilding, which played a vital role to the Normans' as they conquered southern Italy and Sicily. Within the exhibit, you'll learn about these victories and the preparations that went into planning each expedition.

What's more, the exhibit also discusses the Norman conquest of England, initiated by William I “The Conqueror” from the Battle of Hastings, which took place on October 14, 1066.

La Mora Shipyard, the Ship of William I

Your ticket also includes access to the shipyard, where you can see a full-scale replica of La Mora, the flagship of William I “The Conqueror”, being built.

Based on images provided by the famous Bayeux Tapestry, a group of carpenters and other professionals are building this imposing Norman ship under a huge shed.

During your visit, you can witness the live construction of the ship, where incredible techniques from the 11th century are being used. The ultimate goal of this project is to build a real ship that can sail the Norman coasts, just as William “The Conqueror” did.

Store and Cafeteria

The complex of La Mora also houses a store selling items related to the time of William I and the Café de Mathilde, on whose terrace overlooking the port of Honfleur you can have a drink on your own.
