Rioja Alavesa Day Trip
We'll start the tour by heading to the Rioja Alavesa, a land of wineries and vineyards. The first stop will be in Elvillar, a small town dedicated to the cultivation of vines and olive groves. Here we'll see its Neolithic dolmens, such as the La Hechicera dolmen, one of the largest in the whole of the Basque Country.
Our next stop will be the underground wine cellar, to discover the secret of the quality of Rioja Alavesa wines. We'll also enjoy a wine tasting session. Then we'll see the medieval village of Laguardia. Did you know that it's part of the association of the most beautiful villages in Spain?
We'll also visit the outside of the Ysios winery. You'll surely be surprised by their main building, designed by Santiago Calatrava, almost as much as the famous Marqués de Riscal wineries. Located in the town of Elciego, the work of the famous architect Frank Gehry and an emblem of the Rioja Alavesa.
Finally, we'll complete the experience with a traditional lunch consisting of a first and second course and a dessert.
Rioja Alta Day Trip
The day will begin by setting off for the Rioja Alta, a paradise for wine lovers. During the journey, we'll have the opportunity to see charming villages, such as Haro, Cellorigo, Cuzcurrita or Sajazarra, and get to know their Romanesque past.
We'll visit a charming boutique winery, to learn about the winemaking process and taste its products, accompanied by an aperitif. After whetting your appetite with the delicious Riojan wines, we'll stop at a local restaurant for a traditional lunch of grilled meat.
After lunch, we'll continue the excursion visiting the town of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, whose origins date back to the 11th century. This town, which forms part of the French Way of Saint James route, preserves its medieval spirit in its most representative buildings: the cathedral, the convent of San Francisco, the Plaza Mayor... We'll walk through the historical streets of Santo Domingo while learning more about its past linked to the pilgrimage.
